FAQs

Why should I go to counseling? What’s the difference between talking to you and talking to a family member?

Counseling offers a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings with a trained professional who listens without judgment. Unlike friends or family, a therapist provides unbiased support, helps you gain new perspectives, and teaches tools to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.

Seeking therapy is a courageous step toward growth, healing, and self-understanding.

Is your counseling practice safe and confidential?

Yes! Path to Peace Counseling is a safe, welcoming space for all clients, regardless of background or identity. What you share in counseling is confidential, with the only exceptions being concerns about your safety or the safety of others, as required by law.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication? And are you able to prescribe medication?

Medication can be an important tool for managing symptoms, but it doesn’t always address the root causes of your challenges or provide the skills for lasting change. Therapy complements medication by helping you explore underlying issues, build strengths, and develop sustainable strategies for growth.

While I am not able to prescribe medication, I can collaborate with your prescribing provider to ensure you receive the best, well-rounded care possible.

What are your fees?

The fee for the initial intake session (50 minutes) is $195. Standard sessions (50-60 minutes) are $165, with longer or shorter sessions prorated accordingly.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I accept insurance and am in-network with Aetna and  BlueCross and BlueShield (BCBS). Please confirm with your insurance provider that I am covered under your specific plan. I will submit claims on your behalf, and you are responsible for any copays or fees not covered by insurance.

If I am out-of-network, I can provide a receipt (Superbill) for you to submit for possible reimbursement.

What can I expect from my first appointment?

Before your first session, you’ll complete intake paperwork through a secure online portal, including questions about your goals for therapy. During the appointment, I’ll review your responses, clarify any questions, and cover a few important paperwork items. We’ll then work together to create a list of goals and, if time allows, begin exploring some of the issues you’d like to address.

The session is conversational and focused on helping you feel comfortable, ask questions, and start building a foundation of trust as we plan next steps.

How often will we meet? And how long will therapy take?

Every situation is unique, but most clients begin with weekly sessions. As you make progress toward your goals, we can adjust the frequency to biweekly or monthly based on your needs. The length of therapy varies for each person and depends on your unique needs, goals, and circumstances.

Together, we’ll focus on working toward your personal goals at a pace that feels right and sustainable for you.

Do you offer virtual/telehealth services?

Yes, I provide telehealth appointments for individuals 12 and older (as appropriate) using a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.

Are you a Christian therapist?

My goal is to meet you where you are and provide support that aligns with your values and preferences. I am trained to provide Christian, biblically-integrated counseling for clients who wish to include their faith as part of the therapeutic process. Faith integration is always client-led and never assumed. If you prefer a secular approach, you will receive the same high-quality, evidence-based, clinically informed care without any Christian integration.
